What can we say about the Black Edition that hasn’t been said already? What started as a colourway on our Limited Edition Haskell has since developed into an omnibus of Black Editions, including the original Coniston, Morar, Sceptre, Coniston Automatic and this, the newest iteration in the Black Edition stable.

We feel our family of Black Editions is nearly complete with this iteration, so if you're looking to complete your stable of 'BEs' then this is the penultimate watch.

The Devil's in the detail

In keeping with tradition, the matte black base layer remains, as does the faded tan printing for most of the dial treatment. However, we have added a black-nickel plated metallic ring for the minute track upon which bright white minute marks are printed - it’s a simple yet clever contrast to bring the dial to life.

A polished hand set with a white hairline running seconds hand, make this a fantastic, engaging dial that switches from the deepest black to a dark blue gradient, owing to the multiple coatings of blue anti-reflection treatment on the flat sapphire crystal.

The Timer's caseback features a chapter ring with the proverb coined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt: “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.”

EMINENTLY WEARABLE

The case size of the Timer is a bold yet eminently wearable 42mm at bezel and, despite the additional complication of an internal mechanism for the chapter ring, remains a surprisingly slender 12mm, with a 22mm strap width.

We’ve retained the strong case design from the original Solent, bespoke and aggressive. The grippy crown also remains, but now there are two of them. Double-sided anti-reflective coating is standard on our watches now, but is improved with additional coatings to suppress more reflections and boost clarity. It all adds up to a watch that feels familiar, yet intrinsically new.
